Engage: My One Little Word For 2018
I don’t know how many of you are familiar with Ali Edward’s post about choosing one little word to focus on for the year. I’ve seen this done the last couple of years, but never chose one for myself. That is until this year.
My one little word for 2018 is ENGAGE.
I wanted a word that could include several goals I have for the year and the type of person I want to be so this seemed like the perfect fit that I could apply to family, career, personal and spiritual goals. I would love to share a few with you.
1. Be more ENGAGED with those around me.
It is so easy to be distracted by phones, shows and social media these days. One of my goals this year is to be where I am and enjoy the company that is around me. Face to face interaction is really the best way to keep friendships alive not stalking them on social media or being the first one to like all their photos. Relationships last longer and are more important then things.
2. ENGAGE the maker inside of me.
Okay this might seem like an easy goal to those that know me well, but when it comes to crafting I haven’t done something in awhile that was completely new to me. This year I want to change that. I plan to learn 12 new skills this year-one each month. These are skills I’ve been wanting to try but just have made excuses about why I don’t have the time. That ends this year. I’ll do an entire post about the 12 skills I choose because if you are a pro at one of them, I’d love for you to send me any tips and tricks to help me on my journey.
3. Be anxiously ENGAGED in a good cause.
This goal is from a scripture (D&C 58:27) that has been on my mind a lot lately. Especially this time of year I tend to have a lot of free time and it is all too easy to turn on Netflix or Hallmark and just turn into a couch potato and watch the hours slip away. This year, I have big plans to continue on my journey to become a runner, to not fall behind in my journal, to read a lot of books, to try new recipes, etc and none of this is going to happen by itself. My goal is to not let the hours of free time fly away, but to actually put them to good use.
These are just a few of the ways I hope to embody this word for the year. I’ll be sure to update you with my progress as the year goes on.
